ShimaKaji is an Eisa drumming group born from a deep love of Okinawan heritage. Founded in 2025 as part of the Calgary Okinawan Club, we strive to share the beauty of Okinawan culture — its music, its movement, its spirit.Our name, Shima Kaji, means "island wind." Like the wind, we carry traditions across distance and time, bringing the warmth of Okinawa to the Canadian prairies.Our 20 members span all ages — from young children to adults — united by a shared connection to the islands, and proudly perform at local festivals and events around Calgary and beyond. ShimaKaji keeps these traditions vibrant — not as something preserved behind glass, but as something living, joyful, and shared.
