Named after the Okinawan word for "beautiful wind," ChuraKaji is a Sanshin performing group established in 2022 as part of Calgary Okinawa Club. Inspired by the image of a gentle breeze carrying culture across generations, we formed to celebrate the rich musical traditions of Okinawa through the sanshin, a three-stringed instrument that has been at the heart of Okinawan life for centuries.Our members come together to learn, practice, and perform traditional and contemporary Okinawan music while building community and preserving cultural heritage in Calgary. Through local events, cultural festivals, and the simple joy of making music together, we are proud to carry on the spirit of Okinawan tradition through friendship and song.Just as the wind travels far and wide, we hope the sound of the sanshin connects people, celebrates our roots, and shares the warmth of Okinawan culture with the wider community.
